Eyes 4 Eyes - too serious 4 Gratuitous Nudity

Ameneh Bahrami with before photo

Ameneh Bahrami, a young engineer in Iran, had acid tossed in her face leaving her disfigured and blind. She has had 17 surgeries with more to come. She will never regain her eyesight and has had an eye completely removed.

The obsessive stalker who did this to her is about to be blinded by having acid dripped into his eyes as part of his criminal punishment.

Despite needing financial help with her medical care, the victim has refused blood money in recompense and demanded this Hammurabic punishment instead. She believes her attacker will eventually kill her unless he is also blinded and she also believes this punishment will deter other men from acid attacks.

The crime happened in 2004 and the Iranian appellate court upheld the sentence of blinding this past month. The punishment is legal under the Islamic Sharia code of Qias or equivalence, which allows retribution for violent crimes.

The man has confessed. Ameneh Bahrami and many others witnessed him maim her as she walked home from work. There is no doubt he tossed the acid in her face. The sick fuck still wants to marry her and doesn't believe he did anything wrong.

Commenting on his sentence: "They must also completely empty out her eyes, since I'm not sure that she cannot secretly see," he said. "The newspapers have made this a huge case, but I haven't done anything bad."

He obviously doesn't get it.

Majid the attacker

I have no problem with her demand that he be blinded, but I am a raging asshole who thinks Bush and most of his flunkies should be executed for war crimes and Bank CEOs should be shot.

How many murderers and rapists in the United States would think twice if their actions carried comensurate costs like Hammurabi's Eye for Eye?

For more information about the crime and Ameneh Bahrami's thought process, CNN - Woman blinded by acid wants same fate for attacker and Iranian to be blinded with acid for doing same to woman. CNN also has a video interview where they take her to the site of the attack. Washington Post - Woman Blinded by Spurned Man Invokes Islamic Retribution.

Remember that several Afghanistani girls were attacked with acid last month for going to school.

Speaking of sick, BBE, have you seen the doc "Crazy Love" about a NYC lawyer who did this to his obsession in the late 50s, did time in prison, got out, kept wooing her, and eventually convinced her to marry him? Humans are strange.

I'd probably be more inclined to favor surgical removal of this guy's eyes, rather than acid, but that's probably because despite some of the rumors, I'm not Evil.
Probably hard to find a doctor who will remove healthy eyes. That whole do no harm thing. Embrace the Evil.
I have been horrified about these acid attacks. These people are barbarians. The New York Times has been reporting on this a lot lately: Kristof Thanks for posting.
This does appear to be one of those moments where retribution is the way to go. It's likely he would come after her until he killed her.
I have little doubt that if left to his own devices with a whole body, he would probably kill her.
Embrace the Evil is a reference to an Adam Sandler movie, but if it has special meaning for you and VR please feel free to fight about it.
Thank you for giving this horrible issue attention, BBE. Maybe they should surgically remove HIS eyes and give them to HER and then throw his ass in jail. Now that would be justice.
bbe are you referring to little nicky? that movie makes me laugh out loud, i am embarrassed to say.
Where else can you see Ozzie bite the head off a bat?
BBE...good to see you again. Excellent post. Interesting concept an eye for an eye. On an emotional level, I'm all for this guys eyes being burned out with acid. However, I think studies are consistent in showing that this "eye for an eye" doesn't serve as any kind of deterrent to others. For the revenge factor, it may work. For retribution, for efficacy in preventing future horrendous acts of violence, it's unlikely.
This one stumps me. I want to say that he deserves it, but it seems he deserves permanent incarceration more. He is obviously nuts and will always be, it seems. Who will take care of him if he is out in society? Would he have the funds, even for a brief time, to pay someone else to attack her again?
Maybe it does send a message that would scare future perpetrators, but some have a nutty I-fought-the-law-and-the law-won type attitude. Where does this come from and how can this be stopped? Would he, even blinded, still be an anti-hero to some?
I've never put much stock in "studies." The Iranian justice system is all aboard with this particular punishment as a deterrent. If I was facing charges for an acid attack right now, this precedent would have me shaking in my boots.

Ameneh Bahrami is probably pretty powerless. Hell. Domestic violence victims here in the states are pretty powerless let alone a woman in Iran. Having her attacker blinded is probably one of the few things she can do to exert herself and claim some justice.

Her attacker is nuts, but as I read more today about acid attacks it seems his brand of crazy is pretty common. Reject me and I will make you so ugly no one else will want you.
Of course he still wants to marry her. So he can continue to threaten and maim her, which makes him feel powerful. Total power perverts totally, that is what happens when an ism runs rampant.
Sometimes the greater punishment is not getting what you deserve. I rated for graphic truth. I heard about this case some time ago, never saw the pix.
The need to control is probably part of it, but I think his criminal liability essentially disappears if he marries her. Sort of like how rapists used to get off scott free if they married their victims.

The pictures are shocking. Some of the ones in the article MB linked to are even worse.

I expect another flurry of news coverage when the blinding is carried out.
Thanks for posting this, BBE. Thank goodness I've never had to experience what Ms. Bahrami has. Scars on the psyche are invisible.

It's good to read you again. rated
How staggeringly painful for everyone involved. And, of course, it is never about just two people. There are the families, and the ones slated to carry out the punishment . . . it is just so sad what we humans do to each other for the most ephemeral of reasons.
Just shows what real stalking means.

embracing the evil here- why just his eyes though? she lost most of her face.
I think his face should be trashed.

Ameneh Bahrami does not and this is what she said about it in one of the articles:

"'Of course, only blind him and take his eyes, because I cannot behave the way he did and ask for acid to be thrown in his face,' she said. 'Because that would be [a] savage, barbaric act. Only take away his sight so that his eyes will become like mine. I am not saying this from a selfish motive. This is what society demands.'"

"'I am not willing to get blood money from the defendant, who is still thinking about destroying me and wants to take my eyes out,' she told the court. 'How could he pretend to be in love? If they let this guy go free, he will definitely kill me.'"
"reject me and I wd make u so ugly that no one wd want u" is common here in India too...looking at him in the picture you can't even tell that he is the violent kind! that scared me that you can't tell who wd do what to you...why don't they teach us combat at school? what use is all the other crap to me?
