Here ya go, Tresa -- a trophy!!!
The material in quotes below is one comment of two that Tresa deleted just now from his blog about the lady who did not want to give out candy to Obama kids.
He also deleted a second comment that mentioned The Stranger in Seattle was publishing the names and addresses of people who dared to have McCain signs on their lawns in an effort to intimidate them and stifle their free speech. I also mentioned that this effort by a newspaper to bully citizens was getting no press, but the one McCain supporter with her no candy policy got over 24 hours on the cover page here at OS and was also reported on the nightly news. And I also pointed out that race and gender are protected classes, not political parties to buckeye who seemed to think giving candy out fell under constitutional protection.
Since my two comments were critical of the messiah and the messiah's brainless followers, Tresa deleted them and then even blogged about how his page was a no troll zone.
Tresa is a complete balless loser. He is not able to handle even a little dissent. He joins Leigh Bailey in the perpetual twat club. He is a stupid cunt in the British tradition of stupid cunts. Not the American usage you broads get all offended about.
My offensive comment:
"Halloween is out of control in America. it is second only to Christmas in the consumption. Costumes, decorations, treats. It is all bullshit.
The woman had a sign there on her yard and the parents should have heeded it and not put their kids through adult political battles. Or perhaps the little rodents were out without parental supervision and couldn't read?
Shouldn't they know better than to accept candy from strangers?
I give out no candy on this commercial day and support this woman's right to give as she chooses. There is no right to free candy. I'd say the same thing if it was a an Obama supporter refusing candy to McCain kids.
And to you dumb asses advising toilet paper and eggs, in today's age of video camera set up for security purposes dumb asses is an apt descriptor. Trespassing and doing something destructive can get in you trouble with the law and this lady is the sort to press charges."

And now for the gratuitous nudity. These ladies are from the Polish Women's Party. I here and now pledge to vote for any American Women's Party that has their candidates pose nude:

For MTK here is some public nudity - those facists can't ticket everyone:
And this one is for those who like body paint and are feeling a little nostalgic about past elections. I think this guy's nudity is protected political speech:

Oh, SURE I thought candy distribution was in the Constitution. I'm also sure you took me that way and weren't just trying to be a sarcastic condescending pompous ass.
My point was that it is unacceptable for this woman to have such stipulations about who gets candy and that she deserves all the ridicule she gets. She's doing nothing illegal, but she's no better than someone who would only give candy to white kids or Christians. Clearly, her behavior is socially unacceptable, or else we would never have even heard of her. Thus, why you would defend her is beyond me, other than the fact that you LOVE to take the opposite position, common sense be damned.

I'm all confused about what side I'm on. I was upset by the No Troll Zone - but then in your post you're anti-TWAT. I'm a proud TWAT member...
You're only a Troll to the holierthanthou Tresa if yu disagree with him. He has not problem jumping on Americin's ugly, anti everything rural rant
Troll - don't worry about sides. Treas called me out on his blog and I am merely responding. Unlike Tresa, I call people out by name.
To those writing me all afraid this post will get me banned:
Thanks for the concerns, but I have seen the word cunt in other post's titles here before and I have also seen other blogger's names in plenty of post as well.
My comment on Tresa's blog was on point, contributed to the conversation as other people responded to it in the comment thread, and was only deleted because Tresa is a pompous blow hard who can't stand it when he is not fawned over.

The problem seems to be that you are making a valid point along with calling fellow people commenting as "dumb asses." While I don't think I would have deleted your comment if it was on my blog, I can understand why someone would have judged that as unnecessarily uncivil and worth deletion.
Indeed, I have left all of your mean-spirited and not-always-on-topic comments on my blog, but I wouldn't begrudge someone for deciding differently.
Posting here that certain people are "a complete balless loser" or "in the perpetual twat club" or "a stupid cunt" even if in the British tradition as opposed to the American tradition doesn't help your case.
It's not unreasonable to expect participants in our blog not to resort to nasty name calling.

I can't understand nor defend deleting others' comments.
But to take a great moral stand against censorship, you might want to follow Tresa and Bailey's lead and actually use your real name.
Surely you have legitimate reasons for hiding behind blue eyes, but by doing so, you soften your (appreciated) crusading punch--at least in my view.

Skeptic, you are in the false politeness club. I am in the call it like I see it club. It is a stylistic difference.
I can back up every insult. Tresa is a censoring pig who deletes those who do not agree with him and so is Bailey the presumptuous twat. This is not the first time they have deleted me. I have deliberately written profanity free comments on both their blogs in the past only to have them deleted because I dare to disagree.
I saved some of those and can post them here.
So why should I bother to keep it profanity free? I know up front that both of those blow hards are going to delete anything I write.

Alverson, the internet is forever and I am not stupid. I know what I write here is not very popular and don't need OS people setting the campaign signs on my lawn on fire or publishing my address.
You had a close brush with how the internet can intrude on real life not so long ago.

BBE, I'm sure in your head you can back up your name calling. But why don't you write THAT instead of simply calling people cunts?
You call it false politeness. I call it being constructive and living in a civil society. I'd never say you should be profanity-free, lord knows I use profanity in my posts. The small but important distinction is when the profanity is directed at another person in proximity, i.e. another OSer, it's crossed a line.

I took down a post, you're right. And, I appreciated your advice on that matter.
Posting with a real name makes it more troublesome to write about the misdeeds of one's employer, but it also strengthens one's "moral stands," at least in my opinion.
The anonymous posting and commenting does not seem to create as many problems in this forum as it does elsewhere, but I have written here why I think it is morally tenuous.

Skeptic, I called you right with the false politeness. You come over here being all logical and polite and seemingly sensible. Do you think I didn't read what you wrote over at Tresa's? You are just as big of a jerk as I am, but you are also a backstabber to boot. I bet you are the small guy in the bar fight who sneaks up and tries to hit the big guys over the head with bottles when their back is turned.
Alverson, unlike you I don't buy into false moral structures. Nice blog whoring though. I'm going to have to take the time to learn the html to blog whore right.

I can only assume that "false moral structures" are all the ones that you don't believe in.
My personal belief (or moral structure) is that any coward and fool can shout inflammatory insults from the anonymous masses. It takes only the slightest amount of courage to attach one's name to one's words.
Call me old fashioned, or a believer in "false moral structures" all you want. Just remember that while you're convinced that you're "right," I am certain that I am. Do you see the futility? And here we are, agreeing that comments shouldn't be deleted in the first place.
As for the whoring, it's an old post. I just thought it was applicable to this little back and forth. I could copy and paste it if you like. You can learn about how to blog whore more effectively here: Rob's post about in editing in Open Salon

Alverson, again - you are not blogging controversial things here.
I also doubt you would publish my address or burn/steal my yard signs or egg and toilet paper my house and truck unlike the people over at Tresa's post who advocated just that. But I think you are in the minority here. Most of OS is so hopped up on Obama that anyone who dares disparage is instantly shit on and shat on hard.

I think that once the first 100 days rolls around--or even the cabinet appointments--there will be plenty more people disparaging Obama.
I voted for the guy. But I don't have any yard signs (or a yard for that matter).

BBE, oh, I have no problem you saying I have "false politeness," as you actually exclaimed why and it's not really an incident of nasty name calling. (Better than being called a cunt.)
But I laughed when you said I am backstabbing simply because I posted on this matter on another blog! I believe you're referring to me writing, "The response at this poster's in question own blog seems to only underscore their propensity to only engage in vile name-calling." I thought that was a pretty tame paraphrase of my first comment here.
"Backstabbing" implies that I was at some point on your side. I don't think that was ever true. I only acknowledged me own differing standard for deleting comments, but have supported other's being more strict for what they view as abusive.

Could/would you consider putting a link to the post about the McCain woman's grinching of the candy in your post, or here in comments? I missed it....Thanks!
We had a local woman sit in a chair barefoot telling the kids that they had to smell her feet before getting any candy....thought you might enjoy that tidbit.

Re; MY REMARKS ABOUT TRESA:
BBE, I didn't see the exchange between you and Tresa and it really dosn't matter to me except that I had a beef with Tresa and used your blog to give him an elbow in the ribs.
As I turns out I was really just pissed at Americain and kinda used Tresa as a whipping boy.
So, I've apologized to Tresa on his blog "The No Troll Zone" and feel a responsibility to do the same here.
Again, I'm not familiar with your dispute with Tresa so I have no ability to weigh in on either side.
I know you may feel I'm wimping out, BBE, but sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

BBE, I don't think the egging (or even flaming poop) comments were made specifically because the lady was a McCain supporter. Isn't egging what has always been the joke response when someone gives out lame crap for Halloween? It's the "trick" when they don't get a "treat." I'm not advocating it AT ALL, but it's not Obama supporter-specific and probably was commented in jest anyway. Heck, my husband is a Republican, and he said, "Someone should egg that house" when the story was on the news yesterday.
lucas, there are people I know who would pay good money to smell a woman's feet and even lick them clean. The smellier the better. Perhaps more of a treat for some than you might think.
Regarding the link. Just go to Tresa's place. You'll find it. I see no need to pimp someone I think is a censoring cunt.
Chick is my kind of chick. Like I have been saying for days, more nudity please!
Skeptic, I never thought you were on "my side." I'm not in elementary school and I don't pick sides. I criticize everyone pretty much the same. Your hanging out and rating Tresa is duplicitous. But that is OK. You are that kind of guy.
Alverson, the yard will come and then you will curse it when you are stuck with taking care of it when you should be out riding your motorcycle instead.

Well, this is certainly an interesting topic. My philosophy is to make sure I keep my side of the street clean. To own my shit. I try to not take anything personally. If I do, then more than likely it's my crap.
I don't care for name calling, but whatever. I just make sure I don't name call. If someone else is a "name caller", they may or may not have consequences as a result of that. It's not my business. BBE, I think you are good enough with your words that you never need to resort to name calling, but I also get that you will do what you want and of course you have that right. After my recent encounter with the Boulder police, I'm really not in the mood to think that anyone should be censored.
As for the woman who wouldn't give candy to the Obama kids (I didn't read this post yet), whatever. I have no problem with someone being bothered by that and someone not. We all have to pick our poison in life, our battles. What is a battle to me may seem like a piece of candy to another.
BBE: I find you harsh at times--that's ME. What I appreciate is that there is intelligence to your harshness. You are a good writer and I appreciate that. You've "gone after me" plenty of times, but I don't take it personally. I'm sure you will have more opportunity to do so in the future. I'm an open person, so while I may not like the "style" in which you have said things to me, I've always been able to find something reasonable in what you are saying. If I didn't, I wouldn't waste a minute of my time.
I would give this a "thumb", but I will admit and this is my bias so you can go after me and be reasonable in doing so (especially after you gave me a thumb yesterday after I whined), I can't stand the c....word, I don't know the British version of the c....word, so I have a poor association with it, logical or not.
Oh yes, thanks for the picture of the nude crowd. Was that in the U.S.? Are you sure people weren't ticketed?
OK, I changed my mind...I'm giving you a thumb. For good humor.

Walker, I was dared to find an uglier ass than the pumpkin butt I posted the other day. I think I came through.
buckeye, the theme around this place is obama is the messiah. It is 24/7. I provide just small shout of different in a chorus of sameness. I am monitoring the post Stellaa has up that shows the crap some Obama supporter handed out to unsuspecting tick or treaters instead of candy. Do you think it will get the editor tramp stamp or will it be ignored because it could be seen as negatie towards the messiah? At least the McCain supporter put a sign up in warning.
I just hope Alverson is right and people start looking at Obama more critically after tomorrow.

MTK, the best example of tolerated nudity in the public space in the USA is the Bay to Breakers.
Yes, the photo is probably overseas, but I was in a hurry to put this together and didn't look for Bay to Breaker shots to post. I liked this one because it had lots of nudity to it. I found a whole bunch like it. Evidently some guy is running around photographing as many nude people as he can in public places as part of a project.
I don't blog here for ratings. If I did, I would post things like Smith did the other day with all the crying about Obama stuff in it. You're right. I'm not a complete idiot and I know what sells. I sell myself all the time in real life. I have decided not to pander to the masses here.

BBE: Smith? I've written plenty of crying stuff with Obama in it, I'm sure I don't need to remind you of that.
I think I've seen something about that nudity project...and I think it was Sandra Miller that was talking about the nudity in the Bay to Breakers. I'm sure there are plenty of pictures to be found, but your point was taken.
I've been thinking as of late about "pandering". Interesting phenomenon and there are many subtle forms of it. I'm quite certain I am guilty of it in one form or another. Am going to make this something to be mindful about today.
BBE, what I am really upset with you about more than anything is that I cannot for the life of me find any damn figs...I want to make that mouth-watering fig recipe--I've been to Whole Foods twice in the last month and there are no figs. Is there a fig season?

BBE, if the worse you can say now is that I'm duplicitous, by thumbing the anti-troll post, I guess I'll let that slide even though it makes little sense to me.
There's actually a slice of something we can agree on. Although I'm a big Obama supporter and very excited about the potential election results, I don't think of him as any savior. (Just a much better option than McCain.) I've written (mostly in comments) about the need for progressives in particular to not be fooled into thinking Obama will be perfect. At the end of the day, he's a centrist who will probably disappoint many of his supporters within the first few weeks. That's the nature of things. We've already seen that he can be disappointing as evidenced by the FISA vote.
I'm wondering how soon an Obama supporter will be crying "BETRAYAL!"
Just one more thing to note, and then I'll lay off. Your comments here have been much more engaging and constructive as you have laid off the vicious name calling. Going forward, it might be worthwhile refraining. I'm just saying.

I picked the last of the high up figs for grandma three weeks ago. I don't usually buy them in the store because her trees produce so damn many. If you can't get fresh figs, you can soak dry figs in rum and it makes a good winter version.
I was referring to the Smith post with all the YouTube Obama cry moments. Sloan even posted a tribute blog to it the other night. Vomit.

Skeptic, bad words are weapons on the flame war battlefield. I weild them as such. You have to admit that putting cunt and nudity in the title is bringing in the views. I want people to know what an asshat Tresa is and whether people agree with me or not, they are reading the post.
I tell you what - let's have a little competition here to see who can spot the first Obama sucking kool aid headed OSer who cries betrayal first. No prize or anything. Just bragging rights.

BBE: Okay, thanks for the fig suggestion. Will soak in rum because I don't want to wait. And thanks for clearing up the Obama cry blogs. What is one person's vomit is another person's tears. I do like watching them because I could use a good cry (nothing to do with the election...I just need a good cry and I'm a sucker for certain commercials and tear-manipulating ads).
Anyone remember Holly Hunter in Broadcast News? She was tough as nails all day, then at the end of each day would take the phone off the hook, have a really good sob, and then get back to her life. I'd like to figure out a way to do that. Sorry BBE...I'm digressing off your topic...

You'll like the winter version. Fresh is always better but with the change of seasons people had to be able to preserve for the lean months and make the cooking tasty as well. No recipe is sacred and substitutions can lead to incredible taste profiles. I soak fruit in brandy as well.
I am digging on Randolph's Pettiness on OS post. I digress as well, but the photo he has posted there came to mind with all your pro-tears talk. Go check it. He and Gallant are tearing each other up.

BBE: Okay, looking forward to the figs and thanks for the culinary lesson.
Just got done reading Greg's OS thing...LOVED that picture. Not to get all psychological on you, but I got punished when I cried as a little girl that age. For me to cry is a sign of liberation. It's all in the interpretation.

Skeptic, I'll laugh my ass off if it is you.
MTK, what you went through is nothing. The toughening up process is much rougher for us men. When you first start fighting you have to learn to take a head shot and keep coming. If you stop to tear up you'll be beaten to a pulp.

MTK is the voice of reason. You are one of my heroes on here. NO sarcasm, I'm totally serious. I only wish I could control my vitriol toward certain people like you do. I'm not a part of this post, and not going to be, but I always read what MTK says and it always makes me smile. Yeah, I have a mad NET crush on MTK. :-D
;-) "how yoos doin'?"

Randolph, you and walker can blog stalk MTK all you want, but in the end only my comments can make her feel the way that special way.
I love it. Our First Amendment Freedoms in action.
The nude photo project dude is named Spencer Tunick and he's been doing it since 1992. F*cking awesome.
Yes, we love the Bay to Breakers, the Exotic Erotic Ball, and all kinds of other gratuitous nudity here in SF; the pic you posted of the Re-elect Gore guy was taken here in downtown SF.
Rude, Crude and Lewd - there's a time and place for everything.

Behind Blue Eyes: I can't believe how well you got everybody stirred up over how obviously hurt you are. That was a pretty clever stunt putting both cunt AND Gratuitous Nudity in the title. It got me here! I hope all this attention will right the wrongs you've endured at the delete button of this Tresa character.
Anyway, you sure know how to get a lot of traffic to your blog. Bully for you!

BBE writes: "I defend her because no one has a right to their neighbor's candy."
Well, sure, in that sense you can say that no one has a right to courteous behavior from anyone. If you and another person approach a restaurant you don't have a "right" that the other person must hold the door open for you. But it would be the courteous thing to do. I guess the other person does have a "right" to slam the door in your face, but it would be discourteous.
In this situation we're talking about children, who can't vote and who have little or no knowledge about politics. Politics is an adult activity, and it is bizarre in effect to punish children for their parent's political views, or for whatever beliefs they might have formed on their own. And we're talking about cheap candy here, not scholarships to Harvard. But certainly the lady in question has a right to behave like a sociopath, and you if you get your rocks off on defending someone like that, go for it. And I would say the same thing whether the lady in question were a supporter of Obama, Nader, or whoever.
But here's a more interesting question: if someone has the right not to give Halloween candy to children, why do you think you have a right to publish a comment on someone else's blog? So what if Tresa deletes your comments? It's his blog, right? Do you have some kind of property right to his blog space? If so, why is that?
When I post on someone else's blog, I do so with the knowledge that I am a guest on that blog, and the blog owner has the right to approve of or delete my comment for any reason. Do you have a different understanding?

Mishima, my problem with Tresa is that he censors selectively. My first comment the one I saved and put verbatim above was left up most of the day and he even referred to it in a comment of his own.
It was my second comment that pissed him off and got both deleted, despite my second comment having no curse words. Then he goes and posts that blowhard No Trolls blog and hasn't the guts to call me out by name. Wayne Gallant was curious about what I wrote that was that bad and so Wayne in a way inspired this blog which lays out my grievous sins.
Of course Tresa has the right to delete me, but I also have the right to let everyone know what a thin skinned cunt he is as well. And so I did.
On the topic of screwing with little kids on Halloween, I don't see Stellaa's post concerning an Obama supporter giving kids campaign literature instead of candy with an editor tramp stamp. Do you? Tresa's screed was on the front page over 24 hours. All part of the messiah worship that goes on 24/7 here.
But I guess I am not alone in my dislike of Tresa and my hatred of the whole Halloween candy consumerist crap as some hardy souls have hit the rating thumb.
Lazar, trust you to know all about the nudity.
Stephanie, I was mad at Tresa's bullshit and lashed out. And yes it did feel good. Still does. The rest is incidental.

Those guys in the last picture look chilly. And can I say, riding a bike nude for a man or woman ... could be problematic.
You're in a mood today. I missed all the hue and cry. I certainly haven't looked at this other blog.
We took the day off. Because my child felt bad from her shots. So, we napped and hung out. I missed the drama.
I will say, and it's true it's only my opinion, if candy distribution isn't in the Constitution, it is in the Decent Human Being Handbook, where you don't fuck with people's kids to make political points or to make a spectacle out of yourself. That said, it's dumb it got all the news coverage. When will news stop being all 'Britney Spears' in nature? Will it ever become real news again? The jury is out.

Odette, see you did need a nap.
myself? I was really, really bored today. Doesn't happen often.
I think the foot sniff woman lucas mentioned is much more potentially offensive than the political people like the one in the video Tresa posted and the one Stellaa blogged. The foot sniffer might be a perve with a molesting bent.
I still don't get the whole taking candy from strangers thing. My parents never let us bang on doors and I think we are better for it. The razor blades in the apples were big when I was a kid.

Why Blue Eyes, my dear, I tracked you down because I was so impressed with your comment about the idiot-suckled drug war on Hyblaean's Blog, and I wanted to make you my friend. And all I can say is "I yam shock!" as my Cantonese boss used to put it. Which is a good thing, by the way. You remind me pleasantly of Geoffrey Rush's delicious take on the Marquis de Sade in 'Quills.' You can come visit my blog and trash me anytime you want. . . I like it.
By the way the html secret to seamless blog whoring - insert this string:
< a href="http://open.salon.com/user_blog.php?uid=5528"> BehindBlueEyes </a> That will bring folks to your main page. Only, remove the space just before 'a href'.
It will look (and act) like this: BehindBlueEyes
If you want to specify a particular post just open it and copy the URL from the address line. Paste it between the quotes in the above string. Also, you can substitute any text you want for 'BehindBlueEyes' as long as it is placed after the last quote mark and before the '' section of the string.
Of course, I'll have egg on my face if all my clever coding doesn't resolve correctly, but that was the point, wasn't it.
Obama IS the messiah (beat me!)

aw shucks, I got egg. OS renderer be cursed.
well, not to confuse you but in the string you should substitute left carrot (or whatever the hell you call that 'lesser than' sign) for the < and substitute the right carrot for the >
Or -- learn html, god dammit

I don't have a beef with you or Mr. Tresa, I just stopped by for the promised nudity. It's pleasing to see that you are a true connoisseur of naked flesh and you are willing to post such a healthy variety of nudity.
Hooray!
Hooray!
On the subject of profanity –
I am not sure if that wise and good philosopher BBE is entirely accurate in what he says about the use of, and reaction to, profanity in Britain.
In the trial about the publication of the unexpurgated version of ‘Lady Chatterley’s Lover’ in 1962, Mervyn Jones QC was held up to public ridicule for saying, ‘Is the kind of book you would want you wife or servants to read?’
Nevertheless, the book did contain words that it was still not acceptable to utter in public.
Drama critic Kenneth Tynan caused a sensation when he said ‘fuck’ on live BBC TV. (Actually he said something more like ‘ffffffuck’ because he had a terrible stutter.)
Philip Larkin wrote in his poem ‘Annus Mirabilis’:
Sexual intercourse began
In nineteen sixty-three
(Which was rather late for me)-
Between the end of the Chatterley ban
And the Beatles’ first LP.
Was he writing about the state of Britain generally, Kingston-upon-Hull more specifically, or, even more particularly, about Philip Larkin?
Peter Cook and Dudley Moore couldn’t get their foul-mouthed dialogues, ‘Derek and Clive Live’, broadcast on mainstream radio.
The ‘F’ word has always seemed more acceptable in common parlance in Ireland. It is used more often in England now than it used to be and doesn’t cause much shock, although it will still offend many. It has become more like punctuation in the discourse of many.
Even in Britain the ‘C’ word still has great shock value although the Irish are less squeamish. When we told our farmer neighbour that his cattle had escaped again and were wandering free among the lanes and boreens (and our vegetable patch) like the sacred cow of India, his reaction was: ‘Ah! They’re desperate cunts, all right!’
Bob Geldof was reviewing an album by They Might Be Giants, and remarked: ‘They might be giants; they might be cunts!’
Only this past week the big news item in the UK has been, not the US presidential election, but bad language in the media. Jonathan Ross is paid six million GBP per year to present a programme on BBC Radio 2. Russell Brand is a highly paid comedian who also presents a Radio 2 programme. Andrew Sachs, who played Manuel in John Cleese’s ‘Fawlty Towers’, was supposed to be on Russell Brand’s programme. He didn’t show up. Ross and Brand spent a long time leaving obscene messages on Sachs’s cell phone. Their calls to Sachs, including lewd remarks about Sachs’s 23 year old granddaughter and suggestions that he had had a paedophiliac relationship with her, were broadcast.
There was a public outcry at this abusive bullying of a much-loved actor who had been a Jewish refugee from Nazi Germany.
There were 35,000 complaints (at the last count). The prime minister (taking time off from dealing with the financial crisis) intervened. The Chief Executive of Radio 2 resigned. Russell Brand resigned. Jonathan Ross was suspended.

I am all in favour of profanity. I use it often.
Also I believe that being offensive isn’t such a big deal (there will be exceptions to this and I try to restrict my own offensiveness to good causes).
My worry is the value of the currency of profanity has been debased through overuse.
The currency of the word ‘censorship’ is also being debased.
The word, for me, normally brings to mind the Soviet Union, apartheid South Africa, the Argentinean junta during the dirty war or the Catholic church which only abandoned the Index, its list of banned books, in1966.
I live in Sri Lanka. The editor of the Sunday Leader has survived several attempts on his life for his forthright views on the government. The printing press of the paper was burnt to the ground by persons unknown. Keith Noyhar, of The Nation newspaper was beaten almost to death. Several TV journalists who offended government minister ‘Dr’ Mervyn Silva have been severely beaten in separate incidents. One of his associates raped one woman and hacked two others to death. The culprits are never found.
The Ministry of Defence (some call it the Offensive Ministry) controls very tightly any information coming out of the war zone in the north. (Incidentally, when I tried to buy a printer/scanner, I was surprised to learn that I could not do so without permission from the Ministry of Defence. They did not reply for nine months).
As well as official forms of repression the government also uses paramilitary groups, terrorist splinter groups and known criminals to deal with those who criticise. As a freelance contributor to the Sunday Leader wrote: ‘the right of dissent especially with regard to the conduct of the war against a terrorist group and the human rights situation, is being systematically curtailed not by law but by outlaws.’
I contribute a monthly column under my own name to Sri Lanka’s leading magazine, which is very strongly critical of the government. My photograph accompanies the article. A previous columnist in the same magazine, who also wrote for the London Daily Telegraph and Jane’s Intelligence Review, was deported. I myself have been shouted at in a most alarming manner on my home telephone by the most powerful businessman in Sri Lanka who is strongly suspected of having had a customs officer killed for investigating a revenue fraud. The same businessman has been linked to the smuggling of nuclear weapons from Pakistan. The vet I wrote about in my OS post ‘In Memoriam’ has sent me threatening e-mails.
It only costs 5,000 rupees ($46) to hire a hit man in Sri Lanka. There are lots of army deserters with guns wandering around the country looking for gainful employment.
Let’s have a sense of perspective here. Someone deleting your comments from his own blog because you weren’t supporting Obama is not censorship in the normal sense of the term.
There is ample scope to express ones views on ones own blog. I don’t understand why OS is so important to you, BBE. There are serious impediments to free speech in the real world outside OS.
Even within OS there should be a scale of importance. The knee-jerk reaction of crying ‘anti-Semite’ at anyone who questions Israeli actions seems to me to be of an altogether higher level of seriousness than someone deleting comments from his own blog. That is an attempt at censorship. I am puzzled that you are so much harder on Leigh Bailey for what you judge to be pretentiousness than you are on Dr Amy for bizarre statements about Palestinians.
MORE NUDITY PLEASE!

The word CUNT does not offend me. I have one. And I have also read Inga Muscio's book CUNT.
And this is a little hostile. What exactly are you all arguing about again? Hmmm. It's good to know that everyone can be so open here. :)

Hat's off to you BBE. I hadn't even joined OS yet upon this post. It appears you have been a stalwart against censorship w/ gratuitous nudity long before I landed on the scene.
