Obama's sniggering at the legalization question during his so called townhall was telegraphing the future.
Straight from the NYTimes comes this notable quote from Obama's Attorney General:
"In the interview, Mr. Holder said he was sending an additional 100 agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to the southern border to crack down on the so-called straw gun purchases — in which one person submits to the federal background checks to obtain guns for someone else — that fuel much of the southbound smuggling. And with marijuana sales central to the drug trade, Mr. Holder said he was exploring ways to lower the minimum amount required for the federal prosecution of possession cases."
Just what we need. More people languishing in jail for marijuana.
Maybe this is part of his full employment plan. More prosecutions. More prisoners. More jails. More guards.

No. The insanity will continue and only get worse, much like in Afghanistan. Scruffus said something I tend to comment, too much money being made keeping it illegal. Never mind the money that could be made and saved through legalization which is probably ten times that amount.

I wouldn't mind the AG getting high. Just like I don't care if he drinks and smokes cigars. I do think his time would be spent better investigating the happenings on Wall St, the disappearing billions in Iraq, and the war crimes of the Bush regime than chasing down fellow citizens for a few ounces of weed.
He is smarter than this, so I don't know exactly what's behind him. He's admitted to "experimenting" in his youth, so he has to personally know better. I hear again and again that pot offenders leave less room in jails for VIOLENT offenders...and we know pot is not a drug that encourages violence, like, say, meth.
Locally in MS, they have a program in which, if you are a first time drug offender with a nonviolent (and probably very minor) offense, you can get probation for two years if you will make meetings, take monthly piss tests, and pay restitution. THEN at the end of two years, you can get the conviction wiped off your record totally.
A friend of mine saw a girl stand up in court recently who had been in the program. She was doing well for a few months, but then she fucked up and disappeared. She told the judge something like, "Judge, I'm sorry. I was doing well, but I messed up. I won't make excuses."
The judge, a female, said, "I'm glad you won't try to make excuses. Six years in Parchman."
Now, keep in mind that this was her FIRST offense or she wouldn't have been in the program, and I'm pretty sure if she was selling crack to middle schoolers, they wouldn't have let her in the program either. I have seen Parchman inmates speak of how women there get raped with broomsticks by other women. My cousin who murdered my dad went up before this judge, and I loved her then. Now, I'm not so sure.
And, btw, the girl who helped in my dad's robbery and murder got only five years from another judge. How does a minor drug charge outweigh accessory to capital murder after the fact?

I was under the impression that the DEA was no longer going to bust legitimate medical marijuana clinics. This is very disheartening. I was in a Boulder court once...one of my children had been ticketed for underage drinking (well actually all 4 of them went through this at least once). I could not believe the number of people that had been arrested for drug use and were being sent to jail. Crazy nonsensical system.
Sorry to disillusion you, but Obama is full speed ahead against the evil weed. Just like he is in court demanding the right to continue torturing people. He is part and parcel of The Beast.

I'm with you on the idiocy of cracking down on pot-users. But I love Obama and I must give him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe when Holder came back from the interview with the NYT, Obama yelled at him and said, "what was that about?". Just a hope.
