New Boss Same As The Old Boss with Gratuitous Nudity

Rate: 18

betrayal
...is inevitable.

Obama won't change a damn thing:

1) Iraq/Afghanistan/War on "Terror" continues

2) Patriot Act not repealed

3) FISA not repealed

4) GITMO not closed

5) Rendition continues

6) Torture continues

7) War on Drugs continues

8) Bush/Cheney Indictment never happens

9) That tax cut he promised never happens

10) Off Shore Drilling happens

11) Health Care Reform doesn't happen

12) Gay Marriage down the tubes

13) Corrupt Wall Street Bail outs continue

And Palin comes to the Senate in Steven's place.

Almost half of America did not vote for Obama.

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

I almost forgot the gratuitous nudity!

For the change heads:

Butterflies for brains

And of course a naked boss:

Naked with brief case
For MTK - more mass public nudity:
Naked in the city

A better naked boss photo for Bill S.:

Interesting that this is your reaction to what happened last night.

I pity people like you.

I like my reality straight up and not mixed with kool aid.

You're a fool.

Yeah, BBE, I’ve noticed you patting yourself on the back by claiming your pettiness and anger, when called to your attention, are actually just a sense of reality and a desire to helping others see the reality.

Nope!

You are a petty, angry person who doesn’t even have the good sense to hold a post like this off for a bit rather than try to intrude it into the good feelings of people enjoying a great victory…people, by the way, who are your intellectual and emotional betters.

You are to be pitied. And since you are a fellow human being, I pity you.

And although I doubt it will ever happen, I do hope you finally see the light and reality you pretend to see now—see it and work your way through the demons running your life. In your case, exorcism could be a good thing.

Although, I miss Sarah Palin already, I hope she doesn't appoint herself to Ted's seat. Same for ILL Gov Rod Blago.

OVER half did not vote for Bush and he still took office.

The president is like a pot of coffee. You gotta take what's served. This time it's black and strong.
Start sipping. BBE

rjaxn, I have no problem with Obama being president. One lying crook is just like any other and sex/color doesn't matter when it comes to lying crooks.

He fooled all of you good. I can't wait until you figure out how badly.

Come back and talk to me about the above list after he takes office.

I'll enjoy watching you eat humble pie with that strong black coffee.

And if I am wrong about the list then the country and world will be better off. But based on Obama's voting record and statements, I am right.

I think we have to begin pressuring our senators and publicly protesting these things. Of the two crooks who would inevitably win, I'm glad it was Obama. But we all have a hand in this too, and I think your list is a great checklist of things we need to pressure the newspapers to write about, pressure our representatives and senators to do something about, and we can organize protests. The worst thing is to do nothing and expect that others will do our work. Obama talked about change and I can appreciate his election from a historical standpoint, but if we really want change we have to get organized and be vocal and persistent.

This list is my talking point for my letters and phone calls to my worthless Congressional Representative and do nothing Senators. Plus I wanted to put something on record to monitor Obama's performance. The man is a lying crook, just like every other politician. I didn't vote for McCain or Obama.

I respect that. My senators are worthless. My representative is actually pretty good. He voted no on the bailout twice. I called back and passed on my thanks. My two senators ignored the hundreds of thousand of phone calls they got and went for the pork. I didn't vote for the senator I got back yesterday, but there he is. It's all about who has money, not about who has a good record. I did not forget that McCain and Obama both voted for the bailout and both did nothing to stop the telecommunications industry from getting immunity for the wiretapping (McCain was absent, Obama voted for them).

And don't forget the failure to impeach.

Thanks, Blue Eyes, for the list. We all have lists. I see you are already adding to yours. Keep it around and we shall see.

The best news about this election is the disenfranchised voters who voted for the first time in their lives. Will they pay more attention now? We shall see that as well. An involved populace is the catalyst for change.

What you call realistic, I call unrealistically pessimistic. Of course Obama won't be able to do every single thing that he, or we, would love to see in an ideal world. However, that in no way means we won't see progress on any of your list items. What's the point of clinging on to such a negative world view? Are you afraid of being disappointed? Do you simply like to be oppositional? Are you this miserable in all aspects of your life? Personally, I'd rather expect things to take a turn for the better, risking disappointment, than to be certain nothing will ever get better.

#7 is of course far too lucrative to certain people and organizations, some of them blatantly governmental, and will probably never be stopped. I agree with a few more of these, but not all. That's just personal opinion.

Right now I'm appreciating the ironic humor of the fact that Alaska voted Ted Stevens back into office, and he's a convicted felon. Ouch. If Sarah takes Stevens' place, oh well. The people of Alaska will have to decide amongst themselves what to do about that.

While I choose to hope that Obama will do what is necessary to deliver on his promises to the nation, I have to recognize the intrinsic value of people like you who are looking for accountablity.

The issues in your list are vital to the health of the nation. If we are to rehabilitate not just our standing as a nation, but our "national soul", we will have to be vigilant. We must all demand that the future not be business as usual.

I'm one of millions who are filled with joy that the candidate that I believe can best steer this country out of the ditch won last night. But there are 300 million people in America. It takes people like you who feel disenfranchised to make a clear-eyed call for real leadership.

I don't blame you for being pissed off. I don't pity you as an individual for being angry or skeptical, I feel sorry that there is no one answer that can make all Americans feel represented and hopeful.

I refuse to condemn you because you don't feel the same way I do, but I desperately hope that you are wrong.

I think these are good points to watch for,.......I think predictions help us to move down the right path,.....and yes, I also have a mistrust of most politicians and administrators,.....maybe I don't loath them with the same intensity, only when they change rules that adversely affects those with little power.

For just today,.....I want to dwell in the celestial, echo hot tub, then in January watch to see if there is any rub......

I respectfully disagree. I think there will be significant changes in the direction the country takes, with more accountability, less strident ideology (goodbye neocons), and a redistribution of revenue that will favor ploughshares over swords. I do think it's important to hold the new powers that be accountable on the issues you raise.

Stephanie, it is party party now, but how many of these people will do the work? Will any demonstrate in the streets when Obama keeps troops in those bases over in Iraq. The ones we spent billions on? Will these newly enfranchised be willing to stand against their messiah?

buckeye, you are reminding me of Apisa. Yawn.

UK, you are right that number seven is all about money and I am sure you are wise enough to realize that all the rest are about money as well. There is money in war and in health care for profit and all the rest. So much money that Obama will never touch them golden geese.

Kasten, accountability is an excellent word.

Justice, I am a big fan of hot tubs myself. Today is massage day as well. Was your last truncated phrase "rubber meeting the road?"

So Frank et, al, when will it be ok to say how some of us who are not in a state of rapture feel? BBE are not in rapture for different reasons, but goddammit, you will not shut us up. Enough with the crap.

No, I was referring to watching for the possibility of the issues you raised not being served, or simply ignored during the coming tenure.

Also,.....FYI the last name is Justis, not Justice. Pronounced the same though.

Stellaa, evidently OS is now a bliss only zone as proclaimed by those following the messiah. All other opinions are not welcome.

Justis, sorry probably a fruedian slip on my part which is sort of a compliment to you.

Procpious, I hope you are right, but there is too much $$$ on the line. I'd love to see the defense budget cut in half, but too many corporations get their profits from that money.

OS will become a town without or more pity, for those who have not joined in.

BBE:
You sure know how to stir things up. I've gotta say, I'm not as skeptical as you and Obama is inspiring to listen to.
I'm with O'steph and hope he can inspire us all to action.
Keep up the good work though the world still needs kool-aid antedotes like you.

Hey, I just read Ben Sen's post that is currently running and his point is that at the very least with an Obama presidency we, as a people, will hopefully overcome our fear of the color of people and even if Obama were to accomplish nothing of signifigance (this is my take) we will have taken a large step forward in the erasing of race as a litmus test.

BBE, I thank you for being here and speaking your mind. Time will tell.

And, Stellaa, every pond needs its carp but remember not to criticise overly much the crap upon which the carp feeds.

Already rated. I always seem to come back for seconds.

O'stephanie, I love your OS sweet Northwestern charm. You are such a transcended person.

That's Pacific Northwest or NorthWET also.

Stellaa said:
So Frank et, al, when will it be ok to say how some of us who are not in a state of rapture feel? BBE are not in rapture for different reasons, but goddammit, you will not shut us up. Enough with the crap.

Geez, I hope you guys DON'T shut up. This is supposed to be a community, isn't it? I would sincerely hope that means people of differing opinions could co-exist. Everyone here should be entitled to not only have a voice but to speak their mind.

Otherwise it's just a circle-jerk.

BBE, I don't necessarily share your point of view, but that doesn't mean you're wrong. Shit, I'm sure I woke up in America this morning, so feel free to speak your mind. That's supposed to be one of our rights, isn't it?

Thumbed if for no other reason than you have a right to have your say. But I could have done without the "naked boss" shot, thanks.

Leaving the juvenile tone aside (not judging, I's known to be juvenile on occasion) That's actually a good checklist to follow for the next 4-8 years. Danke.

No one is trying to shut anyone up here. Well, in truth, BBE might be trying to shut up the people who are optimistic about Obama, or at least to make fun of them as naive idiots.

Where do you get these nude crowd shots?

While I don't think 'betrayal' is the right word here, I do think CAUTION ought to be a word we use more often, or practice using anyway. As of this morning, it looks like Prop 8 is going to pass here in California. And last night, propositions against people who are gay passed all across the country, including one which bans people who are gay from adopting children. It's unconscionable. I'm glad we had a good outcome last night, but as yesterday showed us, we have to WORK at this stuff every day. The people who voted for Obama now have to get out there and work at making this stuff happen. We can't just count on our politicians to do it. We have to push them. Obama's centrist, so we'll be pushing him hard. Although I am VERY happy he's there.

BBE, you have every right to say these things, not that you need my permission or anyone else's.

buckeye, how does what I say on my blog shut up the overweening messiah bliss heads of OS?

Get a grip.

Odette, nudity is easy to find online. I just look for crowd shots specifically for MTK.

BBE and Stellaa, there is a certain meta-giddiness running rampant through the OS servers today which clear-eyed observers like yourselves ought to recognize as "to-be-expected" if not "welcome and justified".

I think the experience both of you (as well as others critical of the the knee-jerk liberal feel-goodism often on display) have had here should make it clear it's not the content of your political beliefs that make you welcome or unwelcome, but rather the character with which you put them across.

Fo myself, I'm willing to a least let Obama make it through his inauguration before I start calling his a failed presidency.

Lazar, you should read Mick Arran's latest post.

Walker, a token is a token. I will believe when the cops no longer stop for driving while black/brown.

BBE! I can't believe you forgot the gratuitous public nudity! I didn't pick that up when I read earlier.

The picture of the woman is beautiful.
The mass nude picture is hysterical.

So, in this morning's Daily Camera, they published the names of the ticketed runners! And yesterday's paper--these people, if found guilty, face being put on the Sex Offender's list. And this is happening in Boulder...despicable, ignorant, moronic, unbelievable. Just like Prop 8.

As for your main post, fine, have your opinion. You're being a Debbie Downer and I will have none of it today. Maybe tomorrow, just not today. Your list is good.

I read Mick's post. It fall into the "to-be-expected" category. I remain in "wait-and-see" mode.

And that's why I follow MTK around. It's all the nudity she seems to induce.

"I like reality straight up and not mixed with kool aid."

Aside from the nudity, all I see in the post are predictions, not reality. You offer potential realities. By the above logic, I could post a list with the exact opposite outcomes and also "like reality straight up."

Damn, like MaryT, I missed the lack of nudity myself! We will both keep a closer eye on you from now on!

Keep us abreast (!), MaryT, about those folks who are being drug through the justice system.

Now I'm just....sad. *sniffles* Well, maybe not.

Eh, you know, I can't blame anyone for being cynical at this point, given the nature of politics in the US and the never-ending crap we've had to swallow the past eight years in particular.

In the final analysis, we'll just have to wait, see, and hope.

Rated. Repost this every six months with progress updates, perhaps?

BBE,

Are all politicians crooks?

Are there any effective politicians who are not corrupt?

Are some politicians less corrupt than others?

Does one necessarily become corrupt by becoming a politician?

Is the perfect the enemy of the good?

Is it sometimes necessary to compromise one’s ideals to achieve an outcome that is better than one achieved by not compromising?

Is it better to deal with the world as it is rather than to refuse to engage a world that does not meet your ideals?

Does anger do more damage to the one who is angry than to the object or cause of the anger?

May the godz be kind to you.

I understand the happiness in the Democratic party right now: the last two elections were gut wrenching to the party ego. Have you guys realized how intense 2008 has been? (No particular order...I've had celebratory brownies this morning. Don't judge.) :

The Democratic primaries, the Hillary and Obama camps, the Olympics, Georgia invaded, George Carlin died, Palin mass panic, record DOW drops (it's dropping today too, as of this morning), the Phillies won the World series, the first black President of the United States? I'm sure I forgot a lot of other things too, but it would only prove my point that this year has been a rollercoaster. For people to be elated when the ride is over is neither surprising nor offensive to my sensibilities. I see your points about Obama being more conservative than people are portraying him. Even MSNBC said Obama ran one of the best moderate modern campaigns, emphasis on moderate. It's hard to bring change from the center.

But on the other hand, as the daughter of an immigrant who really tried to sell the American Dream to her children, the election is profoundly stunning. I think that it must be at least interesting, regardless of political orientation, to anyone whose skin has a bit more melanin in it.

Also, thumbed for nudity! NUDISTS UNITE!

For some the glass is half-full, for others it is half-empty. Maybe for you, there is no glass at all.

Coming from a multi-racial family. I can only tell you that this historic election has given my family and friends hope that there really IS a place at the table for all of us. We may not always agree, but at least we will be counted. The possibility that we will be judged not by the color our our skin but by the content of our character is huge. The climb does not seem quite so steep.

None of us feel that Mr. Obama walks on water. We realize there is a difference between actions an words. We are willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. In fact, all through this election process most of my family felt that both candidates were doing the best with what they were given.

Your list is a reminder that there is work to be done and that we should not rest on our laurels, but should expect and even demand real change. Today, we will give Mr. Obama the benefit of the doubt that he will take these issues seriously and work towards a resolution for many of them. Yet, in the future we will also remind him of both his duties and his promises.

My family raises our children to think the best of people, not the worst. In most cases, we are pleasantly surprised. When we are not, we also realize that people have things and issues in their lives that we know nothing about and they are trying their best just to be happy. This helps when we feel they are being hurtful or less than fair. I realize that this may sound naive to you, but my family chooses to look at life and this country as a glass half-full, even though there are some members who are not treated equally.

Your post makes me sad because it sounds so bitter. I realize that there are many people who are not happy today and that you are one of them. I hope that somewhere in your life you have things and people who DO make you happy. Because even though you and I may not agree, I value your opinion and know there is a place at the table with your name on it. For that I am proud to be an American.

BBE:

The first naked boss photo was probably more realistic.
Still, not an image I want to carry me through the day. ;-D

Shit, I just read the prior comments.

Carlin would have made a great Prez. If nothing else, he could keep us laughing at our own idiocies.

John: The funny thing is I am not a nudist nor have been publicly nude. Truly ironic that I would be the one evoking nudity.

o'steph: Yes I will keep every "abreast"

BBE: I miss Carlin more than I can say.

I hope that's a recycling bin she's putting those cups into.

BBE writes: "I like my reality straight up and not mixed with kool aid."

I don't drink Kool-aid. But I don't drink bile either. I think it is reasonable to believe that to some extent things will be better under Obama than under Bush.

As usual, you point out what is wrong and that is as far as it goes with you. Your 'tude reminds me of an old breakfast cerial commercial where the child demands "Iwant my Maypo! I want it NOW!! Where are your solutions? Who do you want to see elected president?
Your timing is exquisite! While people are happily roasting marshmallows at the campfire, you stand there and piss in it. In short, I would have an easier time getting past the obnoxious attitude if you would at least hint at a solution or are you just about the put down?

CoachCaptain, my solution is for Obama to go against all of his prior votes and statements for the record and prove me wrong. He did win the election, so I can shit in one hand and want Nader to be president all I want and guess what?

BBE, yes I do realize that all the items on your list are connected to constructs that yield someone, somewhere, a lot of money, mostly made as part of back-room or invisible/untraceable transactions, but (and I am not attributing this to Obama or any other governmental leader) changes are coming. The jury is out on some of the things you're talking about. We have yet to see outcomes and the only way we'll see them is either to pay attention as they unfold, or know about them in retrospect.

I am wondering if you read the longish article at www.dunwalke.com, and if so, and what you thought of it.

Ummm, excuse me. (peck on the shoulder). Bush is still Presdient for three more months. ;-)

It is intriguing to me how so many people have gotten so upset over this list of things that need attention, and which very likely will not change. I’ve been saying for months, congress has shown no interest in addressing these issues, including the vast majority of Dems. Why would they now?

Those who think this list is not realistic are denying recent history regarding these issues. I don’t think anyone who thinks this list is realistic is sad, pathetic or needing of pity, and I don’t think they/we seek to undermine “hope”. But hope is often the source of blindness, and it is wise to keep hope within realistic perspective.

There are always those things which we hope for and never achieve, there are always those things for which we hope and do not expect but occur anyway (pleasant surprises), and there always those bad things that occur while we are chasing our hopes and ignoring present realities.

I think BBE’s point that all of these issues that most likely will not be addressed meaningfully are based on capitalistic/corporatist greed and self-interest is a good one. Obama is a corporatist, which does not bode well for the underlying fundamental changes this country needs if it is ever going to correct the wrongs that exist.

Religion and corporations are the two biggest threats to democracy in the world today. I do not expect to see either aspect addressed any time soon.

Geez BBE. You really are "the sad man . . ."
I have concerns, but amongst the lovely little sayings I recall hearing as a kid was "Don't put up today's umbrella for tomorrow's rain."

Tim4,

I think in this case, it's YESTERDAY'S rain, and it continues...

I like it when people like Lucke who is ever so much more articulate than I come around.

I am told that there was some kind of election in the USA recently!

I didn’t vote in the election. I wasn’t allowed to. I was disenfranchised.

There is a good argument for allowing the entire world to vote in the US presidential elections because the person you choose has power over all of us. The last one you chose ruined the world for all of us non-Americans.

I didn’t get the chance to vote because I live in Sri Lanka and I am not an American citizen.

If I had been allowed to vote, I would have voted for Obama. I would have been as elated as some of you at his victory.

I did have the chance to vote in the UK in May 1997 and my vote helped to eject the Conservative Party which had ruled for 18 years and to put Tony Blair in charge of the country.

I will be posting a lengthy item on how that turned out. It should be sobering reading for you in your post-hangover tristesse.

The Sri Lankan politician Rauf Hakeem said in an interview: “The subject of political morality is a relative thing. The current electoral system does not give any government the confidence to try and deliver upon the commitments made during the polls.”

Your hope and optimism should be tempered with wariness and vigilance. Something like BBE’s list should be in front of you constantly to ensure that you monitor some kind of accountability.

I'm with Rick on this one.

I'll vote for gratuitous nudity any day along with that list.

That's a list that needs serious attention. I don't put my faith in any one politician to take care of it. I do however, put my faith in the people. The one thing I saw last night that has nothing to do with people being fooled was people getting together and being energized for the first time in a long time.

It's been 5 long years since I've seen people in the streets en masse like that. My hope is that those people who hugged and danced last night will have the energy and courage to keep going. The PATRIOT Act isn't going to get repealed by a president. Torture won't stop because of a president. They will stop if the energy of the people is directed towards putting an end to the BS. I

There are those moments that happen that could be a catalyst for real change. Sometimes it's a tragedy (shock and awe), sometimes it's a crisis (tanking economy), sometimes it's a change in management.

I'll take whiskey over bile or kool aid. It's tasty enough to make you happy but harsh enough to warm your blood.

You might not open today's umbrella for tomorrow's rain, but it's a good idea to have one in the car and one next to your door.

BBE-

Wow. You sure stirred up the muck! Lots of response posts. That’s good. But you don’t really actually have anything substantial to say because you haven’t tried to understand the issues that deeply. (But can you post some naked bakers? I’ve got a kink…)

You take the stance that they’re all crooks and liars, and you can’t be bothered to educate yourself because they’re all crooks and liars. That’s not really very helpful or valid. Why don’t you wait to post until you actually have something to say?

I suggest you start subscribing to a good newspaper, and following up your interests by buying a book or two on Amazon occasionally. My impression is that you get a lot of your news and opinions second hand; they’re worn out and ill fitting. I’m not going to criticize you personally any further because you’re an attention junkie and you get off on it. (I’ve read some of your other posts.) I will comment your grocery list though:

An initial caveat I think is valid: Obama inherits this mess. The expenditures on war and the i-banking bailout are going to really tie his hands unless he wants to raise taxes to punishing levels, which will in turn kill the economic recovery. I’m not making excuses here; but blame Bush for that, not Obama.

1) Iraq/Afghanistan/War on "Terror" continues
A) Correct, at least for a while. The Bush cabal created a mess Obama inherits: a fragmented and crippled country that will collapse into anarchy if we withdraw too quickly, and sectarian fighting and a renewed insurgency if we don’t leave soon enough. But we are leaving soon, and the Iraqis will land either on their feet or on one knee, because Afghanistan and Pakistan are an emergent battle we MUST engage now. Ironically, Bush’s reaction to 9/11 was to use it as a pretext to attack a neutral country in order to secure oil, and he thereby gave Al Qaeda’s arguments validity, and their movement momentum. If we hadn’t created a movement to support him, how long could bin Laden have survived personally, much less as a leader of a worldwide movement? And McCain made it clear that he would continue the same tactics, with the same undesirable consequences. Obama will set a new course. For example, I’m hoping for him to pick Chuck Hagel as Sec of State to implement a good plan.

2) Patriot Act not repealed
B) Explicitly, no. Too many people got ganged into voting for it. But its implementation can be sharply curtailed in new legislation, and remember, Obama is getting three draft picks for The Supremes who will listen receptively to PA challenges.

3) FISA not repealed
C) You have it backward, grasshopper. The FISA law was put in place after the abuses of the early 70s (ex: cointelpro) It defined a process to PROTECT your privacy by requiring a warrant from a special court prior to tapping your phone. You would want it restored and strengthened, not repealed. Especially if you knew what the NSA has really been doing: info sweeps with no specific target, including domestic traffic.

4) GITMO not closed
D) Yeah, it will be. In fact Bush would have liked to do so himself, but he would have had to admit he was wrong about most of the prisoners. Obama does not have that conflict. But keep in mind that some of the folks in Gitmo really are bad guys, and we will have to find a way to have trials, convict and sentence them. We really don’t want to open the gates and let everybody go, believe me.

5) Rendition continues
6) Torture continues
E) Hard confirmation is difficult to come by for obvious reasons, but all indicators are that renditions and torture have already been largely abandoned by CIA. They didn’t work and produced shit info that had our military running in circles. The big question is what to do with the people who we know are guilty by other evidence, but whose confessions were extracted under torture, so we don’t know what is true or not true, we cannot bring them to trial based on the admissibility of the evidence, but neither can we release them.

7) War on Drugs continues
F) What War on Drugs? I don’t see bales of marijuana lining up in formation to fight. (Well, I did once). The WoD is really economic imperialism under a different flag. Producing drugs is lucrative, and who we allow and don’t allow to participate is one of the ways we influence other countries politics. See Pablo Escobar, see Mexico in the 80s and 90s, see Afghanistan currently. In any case, much of the rationale for the WoD has been subsumed under the GWOT, which is the latest implementation of US economic imperialism.

8) Bush/Cheney Indictment never happens
I think you mean Bush/Cheney Impeachment. If you did mean indictment, you’re looking for some brave federal prosecutor to press criminal charges against them, and they would not have access to evidence or standing to go up against the office of the president. And no they won’t be impeached either. Pelosi has made that clear. As with the Patriot Act, too many sitting legislators are complicit. Also, “making their best tactical call in difficult circumstances” is pretty good cover for Bush and Cheney, as it needs to be for any Administration. To let history be a guide, Nixon did not get impeached for his crimes against civil liberties domestically or war crimes in Vietnam, but for lying about his peripheral role in a fairly petty crime: breaking and entering.

9) That tax cut he promised never happens
What most folks aren’t realizing is that the second Bush tax cut was temporary and sunsets in 2010 anyway, so the top rate goes back to 39%. Obama will absorb this and implement some new taxes, especially to capture revenue from off shored corporate profits. Also, let’s be grownups for a change. We’re not getting a tax cut because we have just spent four trillion dollars in borrowed money on a war of choice and another trillion and counting on the economic rescue package—which was itself in part due to a mentality of wanting things without thinking about how to pay for them. Ironic.

10) Off Shore Drilling happens
Maybe so. But people who want to drill off shore remind me of people who pick up butts from ashtrays and smoke them: pointless, sad, and desperate. Obama is more likely to face the fact that the oil is all gone in 20 years at the outside, and we better start actively pursuing alternatives. I’d like to se him do more than clean coal, but he recognizes, unlike the Bush administration, that neither hydrogen nor natural gas aren't really a viable alternative to oil.

11) Health Care Reform doesn't happen
This is a tough one. Something has to be done, but he’s up against entrenched interests in insurance and big pharma. Remember that when Hillary tried to get her health care plan through, voters sided with the insurers and doctors, and slit heir own throats. Ironically, now doctors are getting screwed as badly as patients really, it’s only the insurance and pharma that are raking in the dough.

12) Gay Marriage down the tubes
Yesterday was brutal on this front, I must admit. Ironically, the denial of the validity of gay marriage was definitive across multiple states in part due to high turnout among black voters who tend to be conservative on social issues. But the final totals were a lot more even than they have been previous times, which shows public opinion is moving. I hesitate to make predictions, but we are so close to recognizing that gay people fall in love and want to get ma-ma-married too, and that the reasons given against it are stupid, I bet this falls into line in the next ten years.

13) Corrupt Wall Street Bail outs continue
Obama’s vote for the bailout and his vote on FISA and telecom amnesty were the two occasions when I wanted to get on a plane and go kick him in his fancy pants. I can’t disagree that progress so far has been a disgrace, especially as the banks aren’t loaning the money out again to ease the credit market; they’re hoarding it and putting it into war chests to acquire their weakened competitors. Also, bonuses are not being reduced in the interest in keeping talent on board that will be needed to navigate the recovery. It’s a bitter pill, but there we are. Still, Obama has shown all the right signs of putting an administration in place that will deal with navigating the crisis effectively, including bringing back Rubin.

There is a weird phenomena at OS. It seems the deeper thinkers hang out at night or at odd hours. For example - Coleman is constantly hitting me with complex, educated and interesting comments at weird times. I get up to piss and can't go back to sleep and find his treatises.

A cynic, about those people in the streets. If they had demonstrated like that over the war or FISA or any of the other things on my list, we might have had some action. But no. Too many believe in the myth of the paternal president. Big daddy messiah is now going to save us all. Never mind the realities of how things work on the hill. Those people partying in the street for the most part won't even bother to write a letter or call their elected representative.

Whitenoise, you sure put some time into your response and I hate to ruin your impression of me, but I actually know quite a bit about quite a lot. I even read newspaper and books. Not necessarily from Amazon as I am a big believer in the library.

I won't bother with each of my list of 13, but you really shouldn't make such gross assumptions about my ignorance or failure to read. Picking one at random. Yup. FISA. FISA court. Patriot Act increasing the number of judges from 7 to 11. All the revelations over all the years of how the Bush administration has ignored the FISA court and proceeded to warrantlessly wiretap and listen to millions of conversations illegally. Even military people calling home for a little phone sex. I also know about the three member FISA review court. Wow. Then there were the efforts to sue the telecoms that participated and those 40 some odd cases were going great until elected assholes like Obama voted to grant immunity even though Obama had pledged to fight any bill that included immunity. Now the constitutionality of that immunity grant is being challenged. Of course, the pressure was on to grant the telecoms immunity because in the course of litigation is was going to come out that Pelosi and other luminaries of the hill had known from the start about the illegal activities just like they knew from the beginning about the ongoing rendition and torture programs which continue to this day and if you really believe different you are showing your complete ignorance.

But unlike you, I didn't feel the need to expound on my initial list because I knew the OS people who would read it would for the most part know exactly what I was writing about and why I was not happy with Obama on those issues based on his votes/statements on the record. People around these parts are pretty bright for the most part and know that FISA means warrantless wiretapping and abuse of power to spy on the citizenry and don't need my lecturing to drive the point home.

I also noticed you got completely foxed by one of my favorite OS babes, Jocelyn Testes-Harder. Ever heard of satire, grasshopper?

Dig the list. It's more like an outline of your beliefs actually...I sincerely hope things will be check off during his first...if not his second term (#12 might take that long)

You're dead wrong about the Patriot Act.

Send butterfly head woman to my house please.

More importantly...more than half of America did vote for Obama.

My wife says people like you is what makes the world go around...maybe...but I think you guys make it revolve a little slower than it needs to.

I also want to thank you for not letting that man open his briefcase.

Do you think you can get a larger mass nudity photo...maybe one that has MTK in it? We can pretend it's like a Where's Waldo!

I am at a disadvantage here because I do not have a TV. I have never seen Obama or heard him speak. Can you believe that?

The scenes that BBE describes remind me of the mass hysteria in the streets of the UK when Princess Diana was killed.

Colman (not 'Coleman') posts at, what are to you odd times, because he lives in a different country. There is a warld beyond the USA and we try to do things differently when the US allows us.

You don't have to read his treatises right away because they will keep, so full are they of timeless wisdom.

You are far too obssessed with OS if you have to monitor it 24 hours a day.

Get a life!

Colman, sorry about the typo, but you have one in your response.

I have these emails that arrive when people here comment on my writing. I'm thinking I should just turn the emails off or make each blog an echo chamber post with no comments.

As far as Obama and his speechifying goes, there is this site called YouTube and it is lousy with videos of his speeches. Do you have the bandwidth for video?

Farrington, barely more than half and that does not a mandate make. How am I wrong on the Patriot Act? Do you have anything other than your blind faith in the messiah to back that up? Obama's votes and statements do not indicate he will be supporting its repeal anytime soon.

And for the record, I don't think MTK has ever been publicly nude and so the search for such a photo would be like the ongoing search for a nude Palin shot. Any magazine that comes up with a real Palin nude is going to set a record for sales.

Eyes...Almost half of America did not vote for Obama...isn't a mandate either.

Honestly...my faith in Obama would have been enough to give creed to my statement about the Patriot Act...and Yes I do agree he hasn't said or done much about it...but some insider info I got about the staff meetings on the upcoming agenda had the Patriot Act as one of the priorities. But hey man...it could all be talk.

And he isn't the messiah...and you're not Nostradamus...but then again, neither am I. However, I bet my electoral vote calculations were better than yours.

I'm pretty sure MTK can't be found nude in any photo we have access too...but hey Mary...can we just photoshop you in a mass nudity photo? I still think the Wher's MTK could be fun for the OSers.

And now I'm going to go piss and go to bed.

There's not much that can be said about a post that does such a good job busting the bubble--AND gives the simple folks some tits and ass--except maybe that it's playing a bit safe BBE, but look at all them thumbs and comments. Congrats.

It's not a typo - it's 'my voice' ,or maybe it's 'satire'.

Oh BBE, I will dip my toe into this hot bath.

I postulate a world projected by conscious thought overlaid upon a stratum of moving packets of energy we call matter.

In such a world, thought qualifies matter, intention sparks events.

Corporations (embodied thought) have power and presence to the extent that they reflect some inner unity (for good or ill). The 'Greenspan Flaw' dictates that conflicting self-interest, or lack of constructive self-interest leads to melt-down (i.e. another word for disintegration).

Your 'list' of 13, (by the way, please review my list of 13) reflects the power of entrenched corporate interests, which have benefited from some fairly unified projections – at least up to this point.

The question is: can a corporation of conscious entities, loosely bound by ideal, and empowered through connectivity born from the technology of communication effect change that is seen as contradictory to existing interests? Perhaps. The outcome of this election suggests, yes.

We will see, going forward, if the cohesiveness lasts.

I hope Obama visits Kenya and is stampeded by elephants. How hilarious would that be?

Blue,

No gratuitous nudity from Frank. He's got a two by four firmly stuck up his ass.

looking forward to the next four years as the Obama groupies discover he is not JC reborn nor does he moonwalk on water. Hopefully he'll remember to turn the stove off before the burns the white house down.

Mike,
not sure what you saw but I saw two candidates running for president that lied their asses off. If they corrupt their integrity to earn the job then my guess might be that they are corrupt.

The good news is your guy won and I therefore get to point out all his faults while his supporters nominate him for sainthood. Politics with a little gratuitous nudity might be the answer to take some of the angst out of politics. If Palin had campaigned nude then no one would have even thought to check the lineage of her child.

Strangely enough, I've read through your list four times, and I can only disagree with you on one point: health care reform. The rest of them are up for grabs.

Health care reform could actually happen. Why do I think this? Because Obama seems genuinely committed to increasing availability of higher education (not free, but at low cost in return for public service) and health care--the things most Americans care the most about right now.

As written elsewhere, I think it will take a major industrial restructuring to make it possible to ramp American Imperialism down, while ramping domestic infrastructure up (rail, bridges, mass transportation), and if even possible, that will take more than four years. And during two of those years, the U.S. will be in recession (probably). It would take a revolution (a real one, not a "not really a revolution" like the Internet) for this to happen during a first-term president's tenure.

But if we can get our country educated again, and stand with other industrialized and civilized nations in health care, that will go a long way toward laying the foundation for a revolution.

Those who don't know enough to know they're being screwed will continue to not recognize what's going on behind them.
